The Pop Warner Northern Dutchess Cheer Program Develops New Friendships

PWND Cheer GroupTen local girls ages 10-13 are members of the PWND Cheer Program led by Tara Proctor, they began a community service element to their cheer program. Their first community service task was to raise funds and awareness for the Hudson Valley Epilepsy Foundation. Through the efforts of a bake sale, the girls raised $210 and then walked for Epilepsy in June.

In July, the girls reached out to the Hayes Day School in Millbrook. The girls came one Friday afternoon in July to read, socialize and help organize the beginnings of a school library. Friendships quickly developed and the girls were so touched by the students that they couldn’t wait to come back the following week. This quickly became a weekly event for the remainder of our summer school program.

The girls and Hayes Day School are committed to maintaining this connection and we all look forward to developing long term projects at the school.
