The Students We Serve
Hayes Day School provides services for children ages 5-21 who have multiple disabilities or autism. We currently have students from thirteen districts across the Hudson Valley. We provide a highly structured and supportive program for students who have medical, behavioral and/or academic needs.
Hayes Day School provides a 12 month program certified by New York State Department of Education. Children are referred by their local school district’s Committee on Special Education (CSE). The local school district is responsible for tuition and transportation.
Our staff members have experience working with a wide range of abilities. We focus on the individual needs of each student. This may include life skills, academic skills, vocational skills or a combination of all three. We currently work with students who are further diagnosed with, but not limited to:
- Deaf and/or blind including low vision
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Down Syndrome
- Seizure Disorder
- Cerebral Palsy
- Dandi Walker Syndrome
- Soto Syndrome
- Intellectual Disability
- Traumatic Brain Injury

Our Approach
You will find at our school that we provide a multi-sensory individualized approach designed to promote academic, social, sensory and physical growth. Our goal is to maximize the quality of life for each student we serve. Spacious classrooms are equipped to provide the support necessary to enhance the education of students with significant needs. Small Teacher to Student Ratios allows us to focus on the individual needs of students.

Therapy Services
Hayes Day School offers a therapeutic intervention program with the goal of building on the children’s strengths while acknowledging their individual needs. We offer a collaborative teamwork approach to build an individualized therapeutic curriculum. This is facilitated through input from licensed Speech, Physical, and Occupation Therapists.

Classroom Specialization
Each of our 8 classrooms are uniquely structured to meet the varied needs of our individual students. We group students together by a combination of an age range and by abilities and needs. The majority of our classrooms have only six students with a certified special education teacher, a certified teaching assistant and two classroom aides.
